SIBUTRAMINE 10MG CAPSULES ( OBESTAT ) |
Obestat capsules are made in
India by respected pharmaceutical giant Cipla. Obestat capsules
contain 10mg Sibutramine Hydrochloride. Sibutramine Hydrochloride
is sold throughout Europe under the brand name Reductil and
in the U.S under the brand name Meridia. Obestat, Reductil and
Meridia all contain exactly the same chemical - Sibutramine
Hydrochloride, however, Obestat costs significantly less than

WHAT IS SIBUTRAMINE USED FOR?
Sibutramine is a medicine to help with weight loss with people
who are obese or overweight.
HOW DOES SIBUTRAMINE WORK?
Sibutramine works by reducing appetite and enhancing feeling
of 'fullness' . On this basis, sibutramine can be described
as a weight loss 'aid' rather than a 'wonder-drug' as less food
needs to be consumed in order to lose weight.
HOW EFFECTIVE IS SIBUTRAMINE AS A WEIGHT LOSS AID?
If used as part of an overall weight loss programme, Sibutramine
can be very effective. Recent studies have shown that Sibutramine
plus a weight-reducing diet and an exercise programme causes
more weight loss than a weight reducing diet and exercise alone.
A body weight loss of 7% or greater is not unusual within a
6-12 month period with the help of Sibutramine.
The main reason that some people may experience unsatisfactory
results using Sibutramine is that a weight reducing diet is
not adhered to. As previously stated, Sibutramine works by suppressing
the appetite. A weight-reducing diet and ideally, an exercise
programme is necessary for obtaining maximum results.
THE MEDICAL GUIDELINES FOR THE USE OF SIBUTRAMINE ARE AS FOLLOWS:
* Sibutramine use is advised for people who have experienced
difficulty losing weight over a 3 month period using a weight
reducing diet and exercise alone.
* BMI ( Body Mass Index ) must be 30 or above or 27 or above
where a medical condition exists ( for example, diabetes ) that
would benefit from weight loss.
* There should be a 2kg loss in weight within 4 weeks and a
5% body weight loss within 3 months of initial use of sibutramine.
if not, all Sibutramine use should be ceased.
* Sibutramine is recommended for people aged 18 - 65 years.
Caution! - Sibutramine
should not be used where there is a history of heart disease,
heart failure,peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmias ( abnormal
heart rhythms ) or stroke.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
The recommended dose of Obestat is a 10mg capsule once daily
with or without food.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Sibutramine Hydrochloride should not be used concurrently with
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors ( MAOI ) and serotonergic drugs
( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors ) as a rare and serious
collective of symptoms termed 'serotonin syndrome' has been
reported. there should be a gap of at least 2 weeks between
ceasing use of an MAOI and the start of intake of sibutramine
and vice versa.
Certain drugs that may increase the heart rate/blood pressure should be used with caution when used in conjunction with sibutramine. examples of these are decongestants and cough, cold and allergy medications that contain phenylpropanolamine, ephedrine or pseudoephedrine.
SIDE EFFECTS WITH SIBUTRAMINE
MOST PEOPLE SUFFER NO SIDE EFFECTS ARISING
FROM THE USE OF SIBUTRAMINE. THOSE THAT MAY OCCUR ARE AS FOLLOWS
* Dry mouth, constipation and difficulty sleeping.
* Blood pressure and pulse rate may become raised. this will

these increases cause possible health issues.

of fat. It relates height to weight. BMI is calculated by dividing
the weight value in kilograms by the square of height value
in metres. for example, if the weight is 80kg and the height
